House of Unity Add an Object
On August 17, 1934, the State President Kārlis Ulmanis arrived in Daugavpils. In the square where the House of Unity now stands, the representatives of the Daugavpils Latvian Society greeted the president and asked for his support in the construction of the building. The president's response was brief and clear: "The House of Unity will rise on this square!".
The majority of the building is still occupied by the State Daugavpils Theater. The House of Unity is home to the Latgale Central Library, which has over 90,000 visitors. The Latvian Cultural Center also operates in the House of Unity - it is the leading cultural institution. Both the theater, the library, and the cultural center manage and organize the life of this complex cultural building. The House of Unity in Daugavpils continues to fulfill its historical mission - uniting the multicultural society of the city and activating cultural life. It is a symbol of harmony and unity among nations.
